Rep. Jalosjos to sponsor 1st Leg of Tour de Zamboanga

Rep. Cesar “SAR” G. Jalosjos of the 3rd District of Zamboanga del Norte has agreed to sponsor the first stage of the Tour de Zamboanga.


The 143-kilometer first stage of the region’s first trans-peninsula bicycle race is scheduled on Friday, March 29, 2013 from Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte to Dapitan City.

Race organizer Franklin Maletsky said the proposed Tour de Zamboanga would be a four-day 540 kilometer bicycle race that would run from the 29th of March to the 1st of April, 2013.


Tour de Zamboanga is a race for charity jointly undertaken by Race Organizer Franklin Maletsky and Project B.O.S.S. (Brotherhood Operation Sweet Smile). a  project of  (Alpha Phi Omega Southern Zamboanga Alumni Association (APO SOZA ALAS) in partnership with the Maharlika Charity Foundation, Inc.( MCFI) joining hands hands in rendering free Harelip Operations in Mindanao and the Visayas.



APO SOZA ALAS President Gabriel T. Yenko said they had a dinner meeting with Rep. Jalosjos in Liloy last Dec. 13, 2012 where the latter agreed to sponsor the first leg. The other three legs are still open for sponsorship.


“This will be the first Bicycle Race to cover the entire Zamboanga Peninsula; Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga City,” said Mr. Maletsky.


“As a stage sponsor, you have the privilege to advertise your company or products and set your banners all throughout the route of the stage race,” Mr. Yenko said. “You get the opportunity to have 10 racers represent you. They race for individual honors but will carry your name on their jerseys.”


The stage sponsor would also get the honor of sending off the racers at the start and awarding the stage winners at the end of that stage, he added.


The 98-kms. second stage on Saturday, March 30, 2012 runs from Dapitan City to Pagadian City will be more challenging with around 40 percent hilly terrain and  would use the Osmeña Highway which is also concrete with only a few more kilometers under construction.


The 139-kms. third stage on Sunday, March 31st runs from Pagadian City to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. The fourth and final 130 kms. stage is set for Monday, April 1, 2013 and runs from Zamboanga Sibugay to Bgy. Divisoria, Zamboanga City.



Mr. Yenko said the flagship sponsorship for the Tour is still open to interested individuals or groups.


“As the flagship sponsor you have the privilege to advertise your product and name all throughout the race along its entire route. You get the opportunity to have 40 racers to carry your name on their jerseys,” he added.


Prize money for the stage winners has been set at PhP40, 000 (first place); PhP20, 000 (second place) and PhP10, 000 (third place). The overall champions will get PhP 250,000 (first place); PhP 100,000 (second place) and PhP 50,000 (third place).


“This is an open individual race that anyone can join,” said Mr. Maletsky. Registration can be in advance done electronically. We are going to work out the details with the electronic funds transfer companies wherein there will be no cost to the sender.  Two weeks prior to the race registration booths will be located in all five points of the race. The exact location will be announced later. The registration fee is PhP 1,000.00.
