Our next famous personality is Cecilia Borja, daughter of Mayor Justiniano Borja and Dulce Roa Valdehuesa.

Tetel, as she is fondly called by family and close friends, was the Miss Caltex 1965 titleholder, that rigorous beauty and brains competition sponsored by the oil company in the mid 60s.

Her father, a popular and much beloved mayor of our city, died in October of 1964. Tetel was still in black when she signed up for the initial Miss Caltex interview. She remembers that the contestants were subjected to so many interviews she can’t recall exactly how many. She further intimated that all of 1965 was a flurry of activities for the five young ladies who became finalists.

The top five travelled all over the country and had to undergo rehearsals for presentation to the media. That year’s selection was the first time that final judging was based on the judges’ choice; preceding years were by ballots.

The winner was proclaimed in December 1965 and of course, the beauteous, bedimpled & brainy daughter of JRB won the tilt hands down.

After the proclamation, Tetel, together with the 4 other finalists modeled the Ben Farrales jusi collection in Bangkok, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Tokyo on the American President Lines and on Thai Airways, a fashion show on air.

Soon after, she was swept off her feet by debonair Albert Chiongbian, scion of that shipping firm based in Cebu, and they had a beautiful wedding at St. Augustine’s Cathedral. They settled in Cebu City where Tetel is content to be loving wife to Albert, attentive mother to Fredric and Karla and doting grandmother to 5 beautiful grandchildren.
