UCCP Park of Life overview.

The project started in 1990 as a tree-planting project of the United Church Men (UCM) of the city church, today known as the UCCP Men’s Club (UMC). In addition to environmental conservation, UCM thought of a meaningful purpose of the project, hence, the UCCP Park of Life, a “memorial tree park” was conceived in 1991. Under the Park of Life concept, any church member can sponsor or adopt a tree perpetually in memory of their dear departed loved ones.

In 1996, the UMC improved the concept for the Park of Life. Instead of being a mere “memorial tree-park”, the group decided to allow sponsors to adopt a tree perpetually in honor of even people who are still living.

When fully developed, this nature park will be a combination of native and modern habitats and landscaped areas with rare plants and manicured gardens. It will also be a habitat for a variety of flora and fauna which will reflect the Garden our Maker made for human activities, such as Spiritual Retreat, Reformation Seminar activities and simple family or group picnics.

Trees in the Park were adopted by UCCP families.

Thus, the Park of Life will be a place where one can enjoy the beauty of God’s creation, and at the same time enjoy its recreational facilities. Any person, young or old in age and spirit, who loves to be surrounded with God’s beautiful creation, will experience wholesome enjoyment.

This place will also be a place conducive to further study and learn God’s words and works. Equipping and nurturing future workers for God’s works, it fulfills one’s calling to serve the Lord our God in various Ministries. This is to fulfill UMC’s main objective for this heavenly place.

The park facilities as of now include a 1.2 kilometer dirt road from Rosewood Subdivision to the site, the wooden Chapel, the almost-complete reinforced-concrete Minister’s house (parsonage), the Five Hectare (5-has.) area fully planted to mahogany, narra, molave, and other trees, the reinforced-concrete Retreat Center with view deck and modern comfort and shower rooms, the pathway (known as the UMC Way) inlaid with Mangima stones that goes up to the Retreat Center from the main entrance, the colorful painted entrance that greets visitors, the water facilities and electricity from our independent Power Generating Set.

Recreational facilities include areas for worship, walking and jogging, bird watching, camping, mountain trekking and hiking, other local sports and special events.

Further developments planned for the future this include an all- weather road to the site, hanging bridge, cottages of native materials, tree house, canopy and board walk, outer view deck, common kitchen and canteen, perimeter fence, better lighting facilities, better and more reliable water and electric facilities, and additional recreational facilities such as a rock climbing and rappelling wall, zipline, swimming pool, and basketball-cum-volleyball area, among others.

Once these facilities will all be in-place and completed, it will be one of the most beautiful and wholesome parks in the city with the main objective of sharing God’s blessings and beautiful creation, to glorify HIM to others, both believers or non-believers. No doubt the Park of Life will be one of the main tourist attractions of the city of Golden Friendship, Cagayan de Oro City.
