Time and time again, we’ve said that the Kagay-anon International Tapok is the biggest and most exciting Kagay-anon event in North America because it is. Nothing can be farther from the truth. There is no other group of Filipinos in the U.S. or Canada who have duplicated this event.

Since we started Tapok way back in 1982, Kagay-anons from all over the U.S., Canada and some from the Philippines led by DOT-10 have been coming to attend this event. Through the years , we have brought Tapok to all major cities in the U.S.

The next Kagay-anon Tapok will be in the city of Anaheim, California, home of the original and world-famous Disneyland. The venue will be the Marriott which is along Convention Way and a block away from Disneyland. Anaheim is in Southern California. For the 3rd time, Tapok will be held in Southern California, first in Los Angeles, then in San Diego and now in Anaheim, a County of Orange.
Traditionally, for the last 12 Tapoks the activities had been for only 3 days and many participants would say that 3 days are not enough. With participants ranging from 150 to 650, depending where it is held, there is always not enough time to catch up with close friends and relatives they have not seen for a long time.

So this year, the host which is the Kagay-anon International of Southern California in celebration of its 30th anniversary, will run Tapok for 7 days from August 22 to 28, 2011. It will end on the feast day of St. Augustine, Cagayan de Oro’s patron saint. On the last day, it will be held in Buena Park where the Kagay-anons will feast on 4 to 5 lechons with other Filipino dishes and pastries.

Since 51% of Kagay-anons are in California, the Host organization is expecting a crowd of at least 700. Because the days chosen for the event fall on the Fiesta week of Cagayan de Oro, a lesser number of delegates coming from Cagayan de Oro is also expected.

The last Tapok in Southern California was in San Diego that had an attendance of 656.
