A turning point in the war in the Pacific during World War II is recalled today being the 76th anniversary of General Douglas MacArthur’s successful breakout from Corregidor through the Imperial Japanese Navy blockade. Riding four wooden Patrol Torpedo (PT Boats), the General successfully landed early morning on Friday, 13 March 1942 at Macabalan Pier, Cagayan and proceeded to the Del Monte airfield in Tankulan (present day Manolo Fortich), Bukidnon where he, his family and general staff took off for Australia aboard two rickety B-17 bombers on March 17, 1942.

Multi-dimensional artist Nicolas P. Aca, Jr. has opened his first solo exhibit at Capitol University’s Museum of 3 Cultures with a gallery featuring portraits of Cagayan de Oro’s past and present city schools division superintendents. Dubbed “HULAGWAY"(or Picture in Bisaya), the exhibit was officially opened last 16 February 2018 with friends and luminaries in the academic, arts and culture fields in attendance. It will run until the end of the month.

The Bell Church of Cagayan de Oro takes center stage in this year’s celebration of the Cagayan de Oro Chinese New Year Festival with New Year’s Eve rites and fireworks at Barangay Macasandig. The rites start at 10AM to be followed at the stroke of midnight by the traditional fireworks courtesy of Phoenix Fireworks. Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar S. Moreno will once again be the honored guest of the church. He also joined the same ceremony last year.

In the weekend of 10 March 2018, some lucky Kagay-anons were served the equivalent of a Chef’s Table of Piano Masters by Maestro Massimo Folliero, a concert pianist from Milan, Italy and Piano Professor of Braga Conservatory of Music. A chef's table is a table located in the kitchen of a restaurant, reserved for VIPs and special guests where patrons are served a themed tasting menu prepared and served by the head chef himself.

Investments in Northern Mindanao have skyrocketed by over a thousand fold compared to the same period last year. According to figures monitored by the Department of Trade and Industry in Region X, Northern Mindanao generated PhP 15.9-billion (B) in investments for the third quarter of 2017, recording an astounding 1,197.34 percent rise compared to the third quarter of 2016.
